Adding a Recipient
Recipients are the trusted loved ones who will receive your information when your vaults are delivered. Because IronClad Family uses zero-knowledge encryption, only your recipients can unlock your data — not our team, and not anyone else.
Each vault supports up to 4 recipients. Your account includes unlimited vaults and unlimited total recipients — so for more than 4 people, simply create a separate vault for each group.
Recipients must be created before you can assign them to your vaults. This ensures each person has a secure identity, greeting message, and passphrase already in place when a vault is delivered.
Step 1 — Open the Recipients Page
From the left-hand menu, click Recipients.
Step 2 — Add a New Recipient
Click the + Add Recipient button.
Step 3 — Enter Recipient Contact Information
Complete the recipient’s contact details. This ensures they can securely receive your vaults when the time comes.
Step 4 — Write a Personalized Greeting Message
Your greeting message is what your recipient will see when a vault is delivered to them. You may include:
- Instructions on what to do next
- Notes of love, reassurance, or guidance
- Details about why they were chosen
Many members use this space to leave a heartfelt message to their loved ones. It becomes an important and deeply personal part of the vault delivery experience.
Step 5 — Create Passphrases for Security
Each recipient must answer private passphrase questions to unlock your information when it is delivered. You will:
- Write three passphrase questions
- Provide the correct answers
- Select how many passphrases the recipient must answer to unlock (1–3)
Even if your recipient only needs to answer one or two questions to unlock their vault, completing all three provides backup options in case a recipient forgets or misremembers one answer.
Step 6 — Save Your Recipient
Click Save to finish adding your recipient. Repeat the process for each additional recipient. Once created, assign them to vaults from within each vault’s Recipients tab.
Recipients cannot add, edit, delete, or change vault content at any time — before or after delivery. This is our promise to you that your wishes are never tampered with.
Before delivery, recipients can preview file names only or full contents depending on what you choose when sharing the preview link. After delivery, they view your content securely but cannot change anything.
Only you — the vault owner — can edit content, and only before delivery. Once delivered, your vault is permanently locked exactly as you intended. We are on your side.
