Gathering Information Before You Start

One of the many benefits of an IronClad Family membership is the ability to store sensitive information in fully encrypted zero-knowledge vaults. This means your information can be made available to the people you choose on a specific date or after a life event, even if they do not know it is waiting for them.

To make the process easy, it helps to gather certain details ahead of time. The list below outlines the most important information to collect before you start adding documents and notes into your vaults.

Good to know: You can create unlimited vaults and organize your information by topic, life event, or recipient. You do not have to complete everything at once; you can add and update information over time.

1. Personal Information

  • Family member names and dates of birth
  • Emergency contacts
  • Home & real estate details (addresses, important property info)
  • Social media accounts and where those are managed

2. Bank and Investment Accounts

  • Account numbers
  • Login IDs and passwords or secure access details*
Security tip: If you prefer not to store raw passwords, you can store instructions on how to access a password manager or secondary secure system instead.

3. Benefits and Health Information

  • Life and disability insurance policy details
  • Pension or employer benefit information
  • Health insurance details (policy numbers, carriers)
  • Key medical history or notes that would help loved ones or doctors in an emergency

4. Estate Plans

Collect copies or locations of your estate planning documents, such as:

  • Wills and trusts
  • Powers of attorney
  • Healthcare directives or living wills
  • Guardianship designations

5. Personal Letters and Important Documents

Many members use IronClad Family to leave:

  • Personal letters for loved ones
  • Important communications or instructions
  • Other documents you want your vault recipients to have when the time is right

6. Photo and Video Storage

  • Links to cloud storage (Google Photos, iCloud, OneDrive, etc.)
  • Notes on where important photos and videos are stored (drives, albums, or devices)

7. Elder Care Preferences

  • Preferred care providers or facilities
  • Type of care desired (in-home care, assisted living, nursing home, etc.)

8. Funeral Planning

  • Cremation vs. burial preferences
  • Organ or body donation wishes
  • Special instructions for services, location, music, or other personal wishes
