Essential Documents Checklist

Use this checklist to decide what to upload into your IronClad Family vault. Not every item will apply to every household, so mark each one as Done, Not applicable, or To do later.

1. Identity & vital records

• Passports and driver’s licenses.
• Birth certificates and Social Security cards.
• Marriage certificates, divorce decrees, adoption records.

2. Estate & decision-making documents

• Last will and testament.
• Living trusts and any amendments.
• Financial and medical powers of attorney.
• Healthcare directives / living wills.
• Guardianship paperwork for minor children.

3. Insurance & protection

• Life insurance policies and beneficiary pages.
• Disability and long-term care policies.
• Health, dental, and vision coverage summaries.
• Homeowners or renters and umbrella policies.
• Auto and other vehicle insurance policies.

4. Home, property & business

• Home deeds and closing documents.
• Mortgage, refinance, or lease agreements.
• Vehicle titles and major purchase receipts.
• Business ownership documents, operating agreements, buy-sell agreements.

5. Financial & account overview

• Summary of bank, brokerage, and retirement accounts.
• List of key financial contacts (advisor, CPA, attorney).
• Loan and debt summaries.

6. Digital assets & online accounts

• Instructions for passwords and password manager (never store raw passwords in plain text).
• Crypto wallets and exchange accounts with access instructions.
• Domains, websites, and online businesses.

7. Legacy messages & personal items

• Letters to family members.
• Recorded videos or audio messages.
• Family recipes, stories, and traditions you want preserved.
